The Power of the Pen

Why should I journal?

When we are younger keeping a journal was a place to hold all your secrets, visualise dreams and express your frustrations. The societal view of journaling is something that only teens would be interesting in and holds little benefits to adults. This could not be further from the truth and I am glad to see a shift in focus towards this power tool. Journaling should not just hold the secret, dream and frustration benefits for the younger generation. Adults need this intimate, private connections to themselves as well. It is just that we lost that youthful innocence that dreams could be visualised and frustrations could be expressed in our own secret place.

My experience with journaling.

If you are like me, you would have got bogged down with the adult aspect of life and lost touch with the value that pure expression gives. Adult life does not often offer time to reflect on our direction, to pause and become in tune with what we truly desire. I had so many pre-conceived views of journaling before I engaged it as one of my top mindfulness tools. I thought journaling was something that had to be consistent, a nightly diary, in order to be effective. What I have found in practice since, is that journaling is a tool that you can come back to over and over again. When things arise in my life, conflicts, emotions, frustrations, I turn to the pen to connect and rebalance myself.

How will journaling benefit me?

What I find in my journaling practice is that it is a wonderful way to connect to true desires, past experiences and my inner child. Our desires get caught up in what we believe is possible from our past experiences. Journaling is a way to bypass this conditioning and engage with the true desires you keep locked up in your subconscious. Using the power of the pen, I have healed past experiences, unearth unhealthy beliefs and reconnected to that younger part of me. The younger part of me, the inner child, who is filled with aspirations for the future and needs some adult guidance. Inner child work is so powerful and journaling is such an effective way to easily connect to that part of us.

What does the workshop offer?

The conditioning we develop as we grow is anchored in beliefs created years ago and journaling is a fantastic way to see this conditioning. We usually run on autopilot and need to build our awareness of what is going on underneath. In this workshop, I take you on a journey of self-discovery through the power of journaling so that you can connect to your hearts’ desires. Using a range of prompts and future thinking techniques, you can connect to what you hold dear without being clouded by restrictions. These techniques will aid you in realising where your values lie and what you want to attune you focus on, going forward. An added bonus is journaling prompts for conflict resolution, being able to release powerful emotions without having to confront anyone in person. These prompts inspire compassion and forgiveness for both yourself and others.
